His name was Abdullah and surname was Abu Muhammad and Abu Abdur Rahman. His father's name was Amr bin al-Aas and his mother's name was Rita bint Munba. Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr embraced Islam before his father. Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr used to spend time in the presence of the Holy Prophet and used to write down each and every single word that was spoken by the Holy Prophet . Asceticism and piety was a very dominant aspect of the personality of Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr Whatever spare time he got other than the company of the Holy Prophet , he used to spend it in divine remembrance. While fasting for the whole day, he spent all his night in worshipping Allah. His father complained to the Prophet about such kind of his devoted life, the Holy Prophet asked him to obey his father and said:
"Abdullah, fast and break the fast, pray and rest, do justice to your wife and children, this is my way, which is according to me and whoever will divert, he is not from my Ummah.” (Sahih Bukhari: 6134)
i. Love For Ahl Al-Bait Athar (1)
Hazrat Rajah says that I was once sitting in Masjid-e-Nabwi with a congregation, and Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr and Hazrat Abu Saeed Khuzri were also present there. Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr saw Imam Hussain coming to the Prophet's mosque and said: Shall I not inform you about the person who is the most beloved in the world to the people of heaven? People said why not? He said:
"And this is he who is coming before you, i.e. Hazrat Hussain Ibn-e-Ali ”
ii. Compilation of Sahifa Sadiqa
Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr collected a collection of sayings of Rasulullah. Hazrat Abd Allah ibn loved this collection very much and used answer any problem that was asked from him after consulting this piece of writing. He used to say that I have collected this alone after hearing it from the Holy Prophet .
iii. Knowledge and Virtue
The number of hadiths narrated by Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr is about seven hundred. He had a distinguished position among the Companions of the Prophet in terms of knowledge and grace. He also knew the Hebrew language. Hazrat Abu Huraira said that Abd Allah ibn Amr had memorized more hadiths than me. People from far away places used to visit Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr to obtain knowledge of Hadith from him. Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr used to respect those a lot who were blessed with knowledge.Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr was quite famous for his piety and piousness. He used to recite the Holy Quran in abundance.
iv. Death
Hazrat Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas died in Fustaat in 65 Hijri. His life is a lesson for us that we should lead our life according to the teachings of Allah Almighty and His Messenger and should play a vital role in the promotion and dissemination of Islam as this will be a source of success for us in this world and in the life hereafter.
